Somehow Spencer grew up. . . and started liking girls. And girls started liking him. Drama.
When girls and boys like each other, evidently they like to spend time with each other. . . dancing.
Apparently in order to ask a person to a dance, you must do it in a creative, surprising, maybe secretive way. Spencer wanted to ask his friend Tess to Prom and did so by putting a message in a red solo cup on top of her house with a message in it asking her to go to Prom. Background: Tess and her friends like to go to busy parking lots and put a magnet in a red solo cup and then on top of her car and see how many people will point out to them that they forgot to take the cup off their car. Teenagers.
So, in answer to his question as to whether she would go to prom or not, our doorbell rang one day and we walked outside to see Easter eggs on our lawn and a note on the porch to scramble the message from the eggs.
The answer was yes.
After much ado regarding planning (drama: meal, pictures, tie colors, after prom activities), we volunteered our house and our smoker for the prom meal for six couples. The meal was wonderful (of course we cooked enough for us and leftovers), though the kids ate quickly (well, mostly just the boys ate) and left so they could have enough time to actually go to the dance.
We snapped a quick picture before they headed off for the dance, but the pictures below were taken by one of Spencer's friends in downtown Salt Lake City. The night was a fun one, with a little bit of drama and a lot of learning, but really cute kids!
