Summer Crazies

James decided to buzz his hair for the summer.  We started with a path down the middle.

James came home from Camp Tracy, Cub Scout Day Camp, with sock lines.  His darkened skin is not tan, it's dirt.

D.J. also decided (was heavily influenced) to cut his hair, but we had some fun with it before he did.

D.J. and Brock are hard at work trying to design the Troop 1401 Scout Camp t-shirts.  I'm sorry. . . class B uniforms.

In order to complete the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge, Brock and D.J. had to visit a local historical point of interest.  I took them to the Whitaker Museum where they did a poor impression of feigning interest in Centerville History.  The docent did let them try on the buffalo skin coat at the end of the tour.  I had to include a picture of Brock because he is smiling.  He rarely does that for pictures.

Mark got a little frustrated with the boys missing spots while mowing the lawn, so he purchased some grass clippers and made them clip whatever they missed.  Our neighbor Perry thought that was hilarious.  Also, since we are looking at the playground, I didn't get a picture of this, but D.J. hung a hammock from the playground and was very territorial about it.  He also duct taped a sheet up to shield him from the sun.  He was made to scrape the duct tape remains off just this week.

Two welcomers to begin my morning.

The old gas station on the corner of Main Street and Pages was rebuilt and now houses a Steak n Shake.  Uncle Matt Watson recommend the burger place so adamantly that we tried it opening week and sent him this picture.  While we didn't fall in love with the burgers, it was fun to try out a new business in Centerville!

D.J. insisted on getting the bugling merit badge for one of his extra badges, much to the chagrin of Spencer.  Bugling is much harder than playing the trombone, but he practiced a little every day.  He didn't pass off the merit badge, but hopefully next summer he will be the troop bugler.

Every year our youth group volunteers to help with a carnival for Autistic kids.  This year they helped run the bouncy houses, run some of the carnival games and fill the Nemo and Shrek costumes.  They look forward to helping every year and the organizers are happy to have a willing and fun group of kids to help!
