It's Thanksgiving 2016 - time to devour bacon! Our new favorite food preparation is to smoke meat. Whatever kind of meat. But when you cover whatever kind of meat in a lattice work of bacon, it's more than just meat - it's a meat treat!
Mark is happy about this meat treat!
The meat treat ended up looking like hearts. Not because it's healthy for your heart, but because WE LOVE BACON. And turkey. We also tried a new method of cooking called sous vide, which is vacuum packing and sealing meat, then immersing it in a water bath, cooking at a low temperature for a while.
Here is the happy Thanksgiving day table. All of the Colorado Astling came to joint the Utah Astlings, as well as my mom and dad, Paul and Kathy. We were chatting so happily together while we mounded our plates with food. We would've continued chatting happily together had it not been for the sous vide and bacon covered turkey, at which point it was just quiet for a moment before we all started a chorus of MMMMM! Oh man, is this good! This is the best turkey I've ever had! Then a five minute conversation ensued about which turkey was better.
Can you tell they are related? Mark, Priscilla, Stephen and David. It's so fun when we all get together!
But the real guest of honor was Oscar! We loved having fun with him!
Sliding down the table on the stairs. .
. . playing the piano. .
. . and getting out all the boys old toddler toys!
We decided to take a trip to Antelope Island and go for a hike. We started a little too late in the day because it got cold and dark, but we had a great time and we worked off a little of the bacon covered turkey!
After our hike we went home and picked up Granna to play games at our house, including Scattergories and Quirkle. I love most of the holidays, but my favorite ones are any when family gets together!
