Our last day in Hawaii we reserved a kayak to paddle up river to a waterfall. But the night before Kauai received so much rainfall that the water tables rose and we were not able to kayak. While we were sad about that, we took advantage of a unscheduled day to spend at the beach. It was kind of nice to just sit, play, snorkel and watch.
The boys started burying each other in the sand of course.
Then their devious mother started making them into sand art.
Spencer became a voluptuous mermaid.
James became an large sumo wrestler.
For the time in Kauai, we rented snorkels from Snorkel Bob's and were amazed and delighted to see many of the fish listed here and more! At Lawa'i we followed three turtles for the longest time along with discovering many other fish. At Poipu Beach, Mark and I snorkeled, and found a huge school of fish that would swim with us! When we popped up out of the water we saw a sea lion on the beach!
After a beautiful, wonderful Christmas Vacation (yes, we watched the movie too), it was time to fly home. We flew from Kauai back to Oahu and used our 6 hour layover to eat and play one of our favorite card games, Palace. We found beautiful little garden to play in and after washing of the table, we used bacon playing cards to have a last bit of family fun in this beautiful tropical state!
Our Christmas 2016 was different and beautiful and fun, but when asked whether they would like to go on another trip for Christmas next year, the boys responded that they missed the traditions of Christmas. I can understand that. There is a time and place for everything and Christmas is one of those times that is anticipated because traditions can be relied upon and comfort comes with that. Moving out of comfort once in a while is good, but it also helps us appreciate the comfort. Moving out of comfort to go to Hawaii helped us learn, respect, reverence and enjoy.
It was a good experience for 2016!
