In June of this year we asked the boys if they wanted to go to Hawaii for Christmas instead of getting presents. They were pretty excited about that idea, which we were happy about, because you never know with kids and presents. So we started saving and reserving and planning for a 10-day vacation in paradise!
We were batting 1,000 as far as trip delays in December. There was engine trouble and our flight was delayed for 2 hours. Wait, make that 4 hours. Sorry folks, here are some sandwiches and chips because your flight is delayed for 6 hours. The silver lining is that the boys were all too happy to play on their electronic devices for nearly 6 hours straight and Mark was able to finish up some work projects giving him more R&R when we reached the island.
I think they watch three movies each on the flight over.
It rains a lot in December in Hawaii, but they are usually quick, passing storms and the temperature doesn't really drop, so the rain is quite nice. It also makes everything even more green and beautiful! We stayed at a VRBO at Turtle Bay which for the most part was quite cozy until the hot water heater broke. On Christmas Eve and Day. The VRBO owner let us shower in another unit the owned.
But hey, we're in Hawaii!

Next stop, Polynesian Cultural Center
This Polynesian Santa was the perfect photo op to help us remember our Christmas Vacation!
We visited different areas of the Polynesian Cultural Center to learn about different islands and each island had an activity that helped us learn about traditions, culture and necessities. Some of the activities included keeping beat with sticks (above), learning how to make coconut milk and oil, watching tree climbers, learning about tattoos (below), how to build boats, and the importance of dances and music.
The end of our PCC experience was punctuated with a luau and a night show with fire twirlers, beautiful music and stories. We loved this educational and entertaining experience!
