Boy Stuff and One Renegade Girl

I love having three boys.  There really isn't a dull moment and I'm glad of that. . most of the time.   Below are pictures that catch some of the un-dull moments.

D.J. had been asking for a hammock for a while and I realized that Granna had given us her old hammock, minus the free-standing frame.  So D.J. decided to use the swing set as his frame.  Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the actual hammock hanging, which was quite successful.  It hung, diagonally from one pole, across where the swings are to the other side.  To keep the sun out he hung a sheet to the top of the swing set using duct tape.  This picture is of him removing the duct tape remains.  Special acknowledgement goes to Dad for teaching D.J. how to tie expert knots.

We have a neighbor who works for Skullcandy and every so often they offer us free headphones or other items.  One day they brought by some clear headphones that are apparently only made for people in prison, so nothing can be hidden within them.  That ratcheted up the cool level for headphones.  And that just wasn't enough cool for Spencer, so he decided to wear the clear headphone, plus two other sets of skull candy headphones, some shades and a flat brimmed hat.  The jury is still out on whether the sailboat shirt adds to, or takes away from, the level of coolness.

For James's science project in the fall of 2015, he decided to answer the nagging question of how to get a shaken can of soda to not explode when opened.  He tried many different ways: waiting different intervals of time, flicking the sides, top and bottom, slamming on the ground and tapping on the top, to name a few.  The most effecting method, was waiting for the bubbles to settle.  The above picture shows that slamming on the ground was not effective.  As silly as this project seemed in the beginning, it got him thinking about gasses and pressure and what they can be used for in the world.

From the time the boys were little until now, they have always played with Legos during General Conference.  As they've grown, they've reduced the amount of Lego time and increased the amount of listening time, but they still ask to get the Legos out so they can create and listen at the same time.

Awwwww!

This year I asked D.J. and Spencer to hang the Christmas lights.  They were so happy to use the ladder and be manly, but when it came down to it, being high off the ground causes a little trepidation and need for safety.  So, D.J. donned safety goggles and his bike helmet to make sure to avoid Christmas accidents.

The relationship between these two playmates is a love-hate one.  Sometimes it's love and sometimes it's hate.  This moment is a love one.  We haven't quite figured out if James uses Roxy as his youngest sibling and picks on her, or if he loves on her like a baby.  The older he gets, the more he realizes that if you want a friend, you've got to be a friend.  Overall though, there are more hugs than taunts.

And Roxy will make sure of that.

James qualified for the school spelling bee this year along with two others in his class.  This is the first time that any of the boys even had a desire to be in the spelling bee.  I have a suspicion that James's teacher didn't give him an option.  He made it past the first round, but missed the word in the second round.  A great experience for him!

One of the projects I wrangled Mark into one year for a PTA carnival was to help me make a photo op booth type thing.  I've made this into Thing 1 and 2 and the Lego Movie and when we were asked to be in charge of our church Christmas party I couldn't resist making a holiday photo op.  Here are my two little deers.
